A fantastic series by somebody who is genuinely enthralled in history and it’s little quirks that make it such an amazing subject.

A quality short podcast that offers, a not to detailed look at various events in British History, this acts as a brilliant overview of a topic that is perfect for listening to on the go.

A very professional and detailed podcast that travels in chronological order through the turbulent history of Rome. You really will have a better knowledge of the Empire after listening to this podcast as it’s order adds context to the events and topics discussed.

A relatively new podcast that has a nice balance of length and detail, definitely worth a look for somebody with an interest in history, what has been posted so far has been fantastic so it will be good to see what is to come.

The History of Britain,

By Simon Schama.

The trilogy runs through Britain from pre-Roman times all the way to the year 2000. The way this has been put together makes it feel as if you are simply walking down the timeline of Britain at a leisurely pace, rather than sitting down and reading a huge written work. A great read from start to finish.

The Battlefields of England,

By A. H. Burne.

First published in 1950 this book has a very word heavy feeling that is missing from many modern history books. But don’t let that put you off as this is an incredibly detailed review of almost all the major battles to take place in England.

The Battles of Wales,

By Dilys Gater.

This is another very wordy, yet brilliant book, this time it is full of the famous battles that took place in Welsh History. Another book that will leave you with a much larger knowledge base on famous battles on the British Isles.

Terry Jones’ Medieval Lives ,

By Terry Jones and Alan Ereira.

Terry Jones the former member of the Monty Python crew has written one of the best history books i have ever read. This is filled with humour and wonderful little tales from the medieval period, perhaps this is the book that best embodies what i hope this podcast will become. It would be impossible for me to write in words how much i enjoyed reading and re-reading this book. Definitely worth a look.

This series is also available as an audiobook!
